This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit mpkiromo.com (“MPKiromo”, “the site”, “we”, “us”), how it is used, who it is shared with and the choices you have. MPKiromo is an independent blog owned and run by Maina Peter Kiromo in Kenya and hosted on Google’s Blogger platform.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Maina Peter Kiromo is responsible for personal data processed by this site. You can reach us at mpkiromo@mpkiromo.com or through our Contact page.
2. Information we collect
- Information you give us. If you email us or leave a comment, we receive the details you choose to share, such as your name, email address and message. Comments are posted through Blogger and your Google account profile name may be shown publicly with your comment.
- Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, Blogger/Google and our advertising partners automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you and the date and time of your visit. This is done using cookies and similar technologies (see section 4).
We do not ask for or knowingly collect sensitive personal data, and the site has no user accounts, paid subscriptions or passwords.
3. How we use information and our legal basis
- To run, secure and improve the site and understand which content readers find useful (our legitimate interests).
- To reply to your messages and moderate comments (our legitimate interests, or steps you ask us to take).
- To show advertising that funds the site, including personalised ads where you have consented (your consent, where the law requires it).
- To meet legal obligations, for example responding to a lawful request from a court or authority.
We do not sell your personal data.
4. Cookies and advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site. In line with Google’s requirements:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
Google AdSense is currently the only advertising network used on this site. If other ad networks are added, they will be named here with links to their privacy policies and opt-out options.
Blogger also uses cookies to count visits and keep the site working. You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in Google’s advertising cookie policy. For details of the cookies used and how to control them, see our Cookie Policy.
Where the law requires it, for example for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalised advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time.
5. Who we share information with
- Google, which hosts the site (Blogger) and provides advertising (AdSense). Google processes data under its own Privacy Policy.
- Authorities, where we are required to by law or a valid court order, or where necessary to protect the rights and safety of our readers or others.
- A future owner, if the site is ever sold or transferred. We would notify readers on the site before that happens.
Google may process data on servers outside Kenya. Where that happens, it relies on the safeguards described in its own privacy policy.
6. How long we keep information
Emails and contact messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards, normally no more than two years. Comments stay published until you or we remove them. Data collected by Google is kept according to Google’s own retention policies.
7. Your rights
Under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 (and, where they apply to you, other laws such as the EU/UK GDPR) you have the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used;
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct false or misleading data;
- ask us to delete your data, including comments you have posted;
- object to our processing of your data, and withdraw consent at any time.
To use any of these rights, email mpkiromo@mpkiromo.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in any case within the period the law requires. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Kenya) or to the data protection authority where you live.
8. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The site is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection and hosted on Google’s infrastructure. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
10. Links to other websites
Our posts and ads may link to other websites. This policy does not cover those sites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
