The
ability to tolerate fatigue is different among genders. While it is
believed that men are less tolerant to muscle fatigue, women are more
vulnerable to chronicle fatigue syndrome. There are no scientific
reasons advanced for the marked differences.
However, the causes and symptoms of fatigue in both genders manifest themselves in different ways. Women are more likely to discuss or open-up about their fatigue problems than men. This could also be the main reason why a number of popular studies have documented fatigue and depression as being common among women than men. Women are at greater risk for depression than men. According to the Mexican National Institute of Psychiatry (INPRF), the risks for women and men in Mexico are 10.4% and 5.4%, respectively. Many factors contribute to depression in women because brain chemistry and hormonal changes result in periods of greater vulnerability to the disorder.

The causes of fatigue among women are also easily, identified by lifestyle and health issues. Some of the most common causes of fatigue in women include.
1) Poor diet
A balanced diet is important if the body is to function normally. Poor diet can result in too little or too much calories. Both situations may lead to stress in body tissues and this is a sign of fatigue. A balanced diet should include fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.
2) Menstruation
During menstruation women lose blood which can deplete the supply of iron in their bodies. Massive blood loss has been known to cause fatigue among women and can also lead to Anemia which is also another causes of fatigue in women.
3) Anemia
This is a condition characterized by insufficient supply of oxygen to the body. It is caused by loss of blood either during menstruation or while giving birth. The loss of blood means that the person has fewer red blood cells to carry enough oxygen around the body hence leaving the sufferer feeling weak and tired
4) Hypothyroidism
Thyroid problems are a huge contributor of fatigue in women. The thyroid gland which is situated in the lower part of the neck produces thyroid hormones which are responsible for regulating metabolism. A thyroid problem known as hypothyroidism is a condition resulting from low thyroid hormone production. Inadequate iodine in food results in the thyroid being unable to produce hormones normally. Iodine deficiency is thus a cause of hypothyroidism and fatigue by extension
5) Hyperthyroidism
When the thyroid gland is overactive it produces more hormones than the body requires. This condition is known as hyperthyroidism and is the exact opposite of hypothyroidism. Nevertheless, the effects are the same. Excess thyroid hormones do lead to fatigue.
6) Lack of sleep
Poor sleeping habits are arguably the main cause of fatigue in all humans. Sleep deprivation and inadequate rest causes both mental and physical fatigue. Women should strive to get at least seven hours of sleep for every 24 hours.
7) Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Too much alcohol affects normal body function by inhibiting metabolism. This is also true with drug abuse. Women who over-indulge in alcohol or abuse drugs have a lower tolerance to fatigue because their bodies are less active. The after-effects of drug and alcohol abuse also leave the woman stressed.
8) Lack of exercise
Frequent and vigorous exercises are the best way to deal with fatigue. Many women object to physical exercise because it seems strenuous. However, exercise such as a morning jog or an evening walk help the body to deal with most causes of fatigue such as disease, depression and stress.
9) Diseases
Most diseases cause fatigue. The common ones are heart diseases, diabetes, leukemia, liver failure, H.I.V and cancer. The medication that is used to treat the effects of these diseases also wears down the patient incredibly hence causing tiredness and insomnia. The result is that the body becomes physically incapable of functioning normally.
10) Depression
Lastly, depressions which is manifest by a feeling of sadness and lose of appetite, is common among women especially during pregnancy. The constant effort to fight with effects of depression leaves a woman worn out and easily irritable. This is a clear end product of fatigue.
